Live Updates as Angela Rayner Visits Town and West Midlands Fire HQ
Rayner praised firefighters and residents as 85 evacuated households returned and more than £125,000 was raised for families affected by the blazes.
Housing Secretary Angela Rayner visited Stourbridge to view destruction on Quarry Park Road, where a major wildfire destroyed 19 homes. She described the damage as "absolutely horrendous" while praising the community's response.
Wildfires across Britain prompted communities to raise more than £125,000 for families affected in Stourbridge, Birmingham, Pershore, and Stoke-on-Trent. Around 200 military personnel were deployed to assist firefighters battling the blazes.
West Midlands Fire Service said it has been able to "significantly lift" cordons in the area as 85 unaffected households returned home. Rayner announced the government introduced £100 million in new equipment for specialist wildfire crews.
Separately, police charged 50-year-old Isaac Shozi with arson on Saturday following fires in Hackney, London. Shozi was remanded in custody and scheduled to appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Emergency services continue battling 14 wildfires in South Wales, with risk remaining high for next week despite cooler temperatures and rain expected across England and Wales.
