B.C. Food Bank Delivers Food, Supplies to Wildfire Evacuees

The donation filled nearly the full capacity of the food bank’s van, and evacuees at the reception centre received urgent supplies.

  • On Friday, Aug. 14, St. Joseph's Food Bank in Mission delivered 4,500 pounds of supplies to the Seabird Island Wildfire Reception Centre supporting families displaced by wildfires.
  • Executive Director Karen McDiarmid and Operations Manager Suzanne Rouleau organized the effort after contacting Food Banks to coordinate relief support for the Seabird Island community.
  • While delivering supplies, McDiarmid observed the evacuation site and stated she was "shocked to see the number of tents for evacuees." "That really hit me," she said.
  • The Seabird Island Band extended gratitude for the donation, while St. Joseph's Board Chair Stephen Evans praised the partnership between local agencies in the North Fraser area.
  • St. Joseph's emphasized that community support brought "comfort, dignity, and hope" to families who fled with minimal warning, ensuring essential resources reach those facing displacement.
