Emergency Crews Attend Cultus Lake for Another Possible Drowning
RCMP said the man was found after a search by paramedics, firefighters and a dive team, and CPR did not save him.
- A man died after drowning in Cultus Lake on Thursday, August 20, near Entrance Bay, Chilliwack RCMP confirmed. He was on an inflatable boat prior to going missing.
- Emergency responders arrived around 1:12 p.m. following reports of a missing person in the waters near Entrance Bay. Initial confusion occurred when early reports stated the man was out of the water, but about 15 minutes later it was confirmed he remained in the water.
- Paramedics, RCMP and firefighters were all on scene with a dive team entering the lake to conduct a search. Although emergency personnel administered CPR after recovering the man at about 2:40 p.m., he did not survive.
- The investigation has been transferred to the BC Coroners Service. Cpl. Carmen Kiener, spokesperson for the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, thanked the Cultus Lake Fire Department and Chilliwack Search and Rescue for their assistance.
- This marks the second fatal drowning at Entrance Bay in less than two weeks, following a 13-year-old's death on August 8. Officials warn the lake presents unique hazards including steep drop-offs, cold water, and strong winds.
