Firefighters rescue mouse from wildfire
Crews gave the injured animal water and released it near other mice after extinguishing the blaze and checking for hotspots.
Northamptonshire Fire and Oxfordshire Fire crews responded to a grass verge and hedgerow fire at Walton Grounds, Kings Sutton, shortly after 3:10 p.m. on Thursday, August 13.
Officials believe the fire started accidentally when sunlight reflected off broken glass in the hedgerow, igniting dry grass during hot conditions.
Towcester Fire crews extinguished the blaze using hose reel jets and beaters, then deployed thermal imaging cameras to dampen remaining hotspots before departing just before 4:30 p.m.
Whilst attending the blaze, a crew member spotted a field mouse scurrying amongst the smouldering undergrowth; firefighters rescued the animal, provided water, and relocated it to its family.
Rescue Service officials remind the public to dispose of glass bottles and litter responsibly, particularly during hot and dry weather, to prevent fire risks.
