Firefighters rescue mouse from wildfire

  • Officials believe the fire started accidentally when sunlight reflected off broken glass in the hedgerow, igniting dry grass during hot conditions.
  • Towcester Fire crews extinguished the blaze using hose reel jets and beaters, then deployed thermal imaging cameras to dampen remaining hotspots before departing just before 4:30 p.m.
  • Whilst attending the blaze, a crew member spotted a field mouse scurrying amongst the smouldering undergrowth; firefighters rescued the animal, provided water, and relocated it to its family.
  • Rescue Service officials remind the public to dispose of glass bottles and litter responsibly, particularly during hot and dry weather, to prevent fire risks.
