People in Europe order cheap products from abroad – often from China. Customs therefore have a lot to do. A new fee should help.
Millions of parcels come to Europe every day from abroad, from cheap online retailers such as Shein and Temu. Customs are overwhelmed, a new tax is meant to help, but consumers in Europe are spared.
In addition to a temporary customs duty of three euros on shipments worth under 150 euros, which will apply from 1 July 2026, the European Union (EU) will introduce an additional handling fee for small packages at the Union-wide level by 1 November, it was announced on the website of the Croatian Chamber of Crafts.
The European Union is tightening the rules for online shopping from outside the EU.
