Online Cat Cruelty Video Sparks RCMP Investigation on Vancouver Island as Threats Target Man
The cat is now in CRD Animal Control custody as police investigate animal cruelty and urge residents to report information directly to officers.
- West Shore RCMP is investigating alleged animal cruelty in Langford after a disturbing video circulating on social media appeared to show a man mistreating a cat.
- The incident occurred early Monday, October 5, at a residential building where a witness reportedly saw a man yelling at and hitting a cat trapped near a window.
- Officers visited the residence and found the cat appearing distressed but without obvious injuries; Capital Regional District Animal Control then took custody of the animal for examination.
- Although the man depicted in the video cooperated fully and relinquished the cat, police are concerned his home address and personal information have been shared online.
- The RCMP warned against "vigilante justice," noting that posting private addresses creates safety risks and may compromise the investigation, which remains ongoing with no charges announced.
