1 Dead in Burnaby House Fire, RCMP Say
One person died and another was taken to hospital as Burnaby RCMP and arson investigators work to determine the cause.
On Friday, Oct 9, 2026, Burnaby RCMP responded to a residential fire on Douglas Road near Norfolk Street at 4:30 a.m., where one person died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
Burnaby Fire Department and BCEHS arrived alongside Police to assist two individuals with serious injuries, providing immediate life-saving efforts at the residential structure fire.
Part of Douglas Road was closed for several hours to accommodate emergency response efforts. Traffic in the area faced significant disruptions throughout the morning following the incident.
The Investigative Support Team and Police have assumed command of the investigation to determine the fire's cause. Arson investigators are now working the case.
Although the cause of the fire remains unknown, Police confirmed one person was transported to hospital for treatment. The investigation is ongoing.
