Tragedy in Forest Grove Shines Light on Domestic Violence Prevalence in Rural Areas

- On Friday night, 36-year-old Benjamin Parker initiated a premeditated killing of five people at a rural property near Forest Grove, Oregon, according to Washington County Sheriff's Office Detective Mark Povolny.
- Following a "horrible" argument Thursday between Parker and Stella Kimsey, Parker confessed to his mother that the attack was premeditated. He said he had been planning this for a while, Povolny said.
- Parker killed Stella Kimsey first, then ambushed Rowan Kimsey, Linsey Haraldsen, Mary Kimsey, and Alvin Chu as they arrived at the property to check on one another, Povolny said.
- After setting fires at the crime scene, Parker fled to Enumclaw, Washington, where authorities discovered him dead Sunday afternoon in a vehicle from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
- Washington County officials are expanding lethality assessment tools and launching a mobile outreach program to support survivors, as the tragedy shakes the community of roughly 27,470 people.
