Cuba has begun to incorporate into its legislation certain reforms in favour of the market economy announced in June.
On Wednesday, the Official Gazette published Decree-Law 133 amending Decree-Law 88 “On Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises”, 89 “On Non-Agricultural Cooperatives” and 90 “On the Exercise of Self-Employment” which expand the possibilities for non-State economic actors to act.
Cuba is opening its doors wider to private business. New regulations will allow entrepreneurs to expand their operations nationwide, independently set prices and wages, and even directly import and export goods. The reforms come amid a deep economic crisis.
The Official Gazette No. 71 published Decree-Law 133, amending Decree-Law 88, 89 and 90, concerning micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, non-agricultural cooperatives and self-employment, respectively.
