The EOS-05 will keep a close watch on the Indian subcontinent from the sky. It will provide real-time imagery of large-area regions at frequent intervals, which will be useful in activities such as agriculture, disaster management, and the monitoring of cyclones, cloudbursts, and thunderstorms.
Most Earth-imaging satellites orbit a few hundred kilometres up, giving them only minutes over any one location during each pass. EOS-05, launched by ISRO on 4 September 2026, is now climbing towards a geosynchronous orbit roughly 36,000 kilometres above Earth, from where it is designed to keep the same broad region in view and provide near-continuous imagery.
GSLV-F17 delivered India's first geosynchronous Earth-imaging spacecraft to a transfer orbit. EOS-05 must now complete its climb before persistent regional radar observations begin.
