ISRO’s EOS-05, India’s First Imaging Satellite for Geosynchronous Orbit, Launched Successfully
The satellite will provide real-time imagery for agriculture and disaster management, ISRO said, after a 27-hour countdown and a 2:55 a.m. liftoff.
- On Friday, September 4, 2026, the Indian Space Research Organisation successfully launched the GSLV-F17 rocket carrying the Advanced Earth Observation Satellite from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
- This mission replaces the unsuccessful 2021 EOS-03 attempt and follows a gap of nearly 8 months since ISRO's previous launch effort, marking the agency's return to flight after recent setbacks.
- The 51.7-meter GSLV-F17 rocket, weighing 420.5 tonnes, carries the 2,367 kg EOS-05 satellite positioned at an altitude of around 36,000 km in geosynchronous orbit, enabling consistent Earth observation.
