Hurricane Center Tracks 2 Tropical Waves; 1 Could Make Way to Florida
Forecasters say Invest 92L now has a 60% chance of developing in 48 hours and could bring flooding rain to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
On Saturday, the National Hurricane Center continues monitoring Invest 92L, located about 350 miles east of the Windward Islands, as it brings gusty winds and heavy rain to the Lesser Antilles.
The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season remains slow with only three named storms—Arthur, Bertha, and Cristobal—since June 1, while NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook predicts a 'below normal' season.
Forecasters are also tracking Invest 94L, located more than 1,000 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands, which could strengthen into a tropical depression by the weekend despite dry air and wind shear.
Puerto Rico expects a "significant increase in tropical moisture" from Invest 92L, with the National Weather Service in Puerto Rico predicting a wetter, more unstable weather pattern across the northeastern Caribbean Sunday into Monday.
Remote possibilities for United States impacts remain, as AccuWeather warned Invest 92L "would have to thread the needle to reach the southeast coast of the United States sometime late next week and seems to be only a remote possibility at this point.
