GFWC Women’s Club celebrates summer with visits to local gardens – BG Independent News

From GFWC WOMEN’S CLUB OF BOWLING GREEN Members of the garden group of GFWC Women’s Club of Bowling Green gathered this summer for various experiences of nature’s beauty and of service. On June 16, members traveled to Luckey Road Lavender Farm to experience the massive lavender plantings and hear about the beginning history of this endeavor by Kylee Seibert-Wongrowski, hear information about raising one’s own lavender, and roam and enjoy the newest plantings and products using lavender. Co-president Susan Enright asked members to answer roll call by naming a good shade garden plant. In club business, discussion was held about continuing the “Welcome” sign waterings for 2026 and the holiday art & craft show basket, “Enjoying our Birds.” Special thanks are extended to hostesses Pat Limes and Amy Harrison-Kinder for providing refreshments. In July, members toured the Harper Garden in Williamsburg on the river, to view Charlie Harper’s extensive daylily gardens.

On June 16, members traveled to Luckey Road Lavender Farm to experience the massive lavender plantings and hear about the beginning history of this endeavor by Kylee Seibert-Wongrowski, hear information about raising one’s own lavender, and roam and enjoy the newest plantings and products using lavender. In July, members toured the Harper Garden in Williamsburg on the river, to view Charlie Harper’s extensive daylily gardens. Members answered roll call sharing if they saw a flower new to them during the tour. There was a “Five Minutes of Less” presentation on the Scarlet Carnation by Sara Moomaw, sharing the history of Ohio’s state flower. Carol Ballard coordinated and shared pictures of the Hosta plants purchased and installed at Simpson Garden in memory of Linda Myers (Brentwood Blues, Section L) and Becky Bhaer (Bright Lights, Section L), along with the one previously purchased and installed in memory of Evie Bachman (Tears in Heaven, Section F). Hostesses Bradford and Jo Sipes provided refreshments and an ice cream truck visited the location. The OAGC Region 1 fall meeting will be held on Nov. 5 at St. Mark’s Lutheran church in Bowling Green. Speakers have been arranged and the club will be working with Town & Country Garden Club for breakfast items, with lunch catered by the Bowling Green Country Club. In lieu of a meeting in August, garden group members volunteered at various times at the Wood County Fair providing support in particular for the flower shows, beginning setting up and filling water bottles for participants in the two flower-judging events.
