Full refund warning as Asda recalls toxic product over 'serious chemical risk'
Safety officials said testing found PFAS, including perfluorooctanoic acid, above permitted limits in five men’s hiking shoe lines.
Supermarket chain Asda withdrew five lines of men's hiking footwear from stores and online after testing identified PFAS chemicals exceeding legal limits; Officials classified the footwear as presenting a serious chemical risk.
Safety officials confirmed the footwear fails the requirements of the REACH Regulations 2008, as testing identified PFAS, including PFOA, above permitted regulatory limits.
Five outdoor lines affected include the Khaki Hiker Boot and Khaki Hiker Shoe, priced at £36 and £28, plus Grey Hiker Boot and Grey Hiker Shoe at the same prices; Trading Standards notified the Safety regulator.
Customers who purchased affected shoes must stop using them immediately and return them to Asda stores for full refunds without requiring receipts; Shoppers can contact Asda Customer Relations on 0330 053 0111 for assistance.
Regulators warned: "Prolonged exposure to these substances may pose a risk to human health and may cause damage to the reproductive system." Asda stated no safety incidents have been reported in connection with the products.
