Former B.C. Conservative Teresa Wat Joining Peter Milobar's New Party
The group will become the third party in the legislature as six former Conservatives build an alternative to the NDP.
- On Sept 11, 2026, Richmond-Bridgeport MLA Teresa Wat announced she is joining the new, unnamed political party led by Kamloops Centre MLA Peter Milobar to help build a serious alternative.
- Wat left the Conservatives on Aug 26, one of nine MLAs who departed following complaints about Kerry-Lynne Findlay; Findlay had accused her of being a member of the Chinese Communist Party.
- Bringing experience as a former Minister under Christy Clark since 2013, Wat stated, "I believe that this party can bring people together from across our province and replace the NDP as British Columbia's government."
- Whatever it is called, the new party immediately becomes the third party in the legislature, supplanting the Green Party, which currently holds two seats.
- The legislature's current balance shows the NDP at 47 seats, the Conservatives at 28, with eight unaffiliated former Conservatives and two vacancies remaining.
