B.C. Cattlemen Partner with Alberta Beef Producers to Provide Feed to Local Ranchers in Need
The expanded program links ranchers with extra feed, pasture or cattle space as wildfire and drought pressures continue, officials said.
- On Sept. 11, the BCCA announced a partnership with the Alberta Beef Producers to support ranchers impacted by the 2026 wildfire season, connecting producers facing feed shortages with Alberta farms possessing excess capacity.
- This collaboration expands the BCCA Access to Feed Program as producers face a difficult year with wildfire and drought impacts. Kevin Boon, general manager of the Association, noted the program offers options producers may not have otherwise known about.
- Through this initiative, the Association and Alberta Beef Producers ask Albertan producers to consider providing available feed, pasture for relocated cattle, or feedlot capacity for stock needing to remain in Alberta through the winter.
- Brad Dubeau, general manager of ABP, said, "This is really about neighbours helping neighbours and producers helping producers." The BCCA maintains confidentiality for all deals, letting producers determine arrangement details after being put in contact.
