Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek announced striking figures regarding public sector austerity measures at the launch meeting of the Medium-Term Program covering the period 2027-2029. Şimşek stated that 484 billion Turkish Lira in savings were achieved in the public sector during the 2024-2025 period. This amount corresponds to approximately 10 billion US dollars at the current exchange rate.
While the new roadmap for the 2027-2029 period was announced in the Medium-Term Economic Program (OVP), Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek made a noteworthy assessment regarding inflation. Stating that "we are not where we want to be," Minister Şimşek cited the fact that inflation has not spiraled out of control despite challenging global conditions, and the increased confidence in the Turkish Lira, as achievements of the program.
Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Treasury and Finance, said: “There is a success in saving in the public sector. We are getting good results with monitoring, supervision and enforcement. 484 billion liras have been saved, which corresponds to the budget of 6 ministries.”
