- On Wednesday, 54-year-old Tonnetta Evans was arrested in Tampa after dragging a deputy during a traffic stop and immediately colliding with a school bus carrying 41 Pierce Middle School students.
- Deputies stopped Evans on Hillsborough Avenue West after developing probable cause to search her vehicle; she refused to cooperate, shifted into drive, and fled eastbound with a deputy partially inside the car.
- Investigators captured Evans at the Howard Avenue and Armenia Avenue ramp to southbound Interstate 275, where a search of the stolen vehicle revealed a pipe bomb, brass knuckles, a TASER, and $1,100 in counterfeit bills.
- Evans, an 11-time convicted felon, faces charges including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and armed possession of methamphetamine; she was also booked on an outstanding Kentucky warrant.
- Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister stated the suspect showed "complete disregard for the safety of our deputy, other motorists and the children," adding that "a dangerous career criminal who was driving around with a pipe bomb in her car is now off our streets.
