Woman Injured Following Arrest by Nelson RCMP, Police Watchdog Investigating
The police watchdog is seeking witnesses after the woman was taken to hospital and later released without charges, officials said.
- The Independent Investigations Office is investigating the Nelson RCMP following an Aug. 22 arrest in Slocan Park that resulted in a woman seeking hospital treatment for injuries.
- Nelson RCMP officers responded to a 3100-block property on Slocan Valley Road East to assist a court bailiff with a vehicle repossession, where they arrested the woman involved.
- Police released the woman from custody without charges after the arrest, according to the IIO, before she sought assessment and treatment at a hospital.
- Under the Police Act, the IIO investigates all incidents involving officers that result in serious harm or death to determine if a connection exists to officer actions.
- Officials are currently seeking witnesses to the Aug. 22 interaction and urge anyone with information to contact the IIO Witness Line or submit details via their online form.
