B.C. Man Charged After Fiery Crash Killed 2 Near Lytton
RCMP said two people died and four were injured when a Ford SUV and GMC pickup collided and burned in the crash.
- On Aug. 6, 2026, 44-year-old Joel Chenier of Williams Lake was charged with driving without due care and attention under Section 144 of the Motor Vehicle Act following a fatal crash south of Lytton.
- A black Ford SUV collided with a grey GMC pickup on Highway 1 south of Lytton on Aug. 15, 2025, just before 5 p.m., with both vehicles destroyed by fire.
- Two people were killed and four others injured in the collision, with RCMP reporting that Chenier and his vehicle's occupants included three of the injured and one of the deceased.
- The RCMP transferred the investigation to the Highway Patrol during the weeks following the collision; results were later forwarded to the Prosecution Service for review.
- Chenier has been served with a summons to appear in Lillooet Provincial Court on Sept. 15, 2026, to address the charges stemming from the collision.
