Trump Turns to Convicted Election Official Tina Peters for ‘Election Integrity’ Talks
Ed Martin said the meeting focused on foreign-made voting machine parts and the stalled SAVE America Act, with Trump weighing federal action if Congress does not act.
- On Monday, President Donald Trump met with former Colorado election clerk Tina Peters in the Oval Office to discuss "the plans" for next month's midterm elections, according to former Justice Department official Ed Martin.
- Tina Peters, the former Mesa County clerk, was convicted in 2024 of election tampering following a 2021 breach of county voting equipment, though Colorado Governor Jared Polis commuted her prison sentence earlier this year.
- Martin stated the discussion focused on voting machine security, referencing Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin's August warning that components from foreign adversaries presented "significant security risks."
- Linking the visit to the stalled SAVE America Act, Martin asserted, "the president's going to have to do what he's going to do" if Congress fails to act.
- Federal agencies examining voting-machine allegations have not produced evidence that foreign actors altered election results, even as Trump continues to question U.S. election systems ahead of the November midterms.
