Wildfire Crews Get a Handle on 2 of 3 Blazes Near the Okanagan Connector
BC Wildfire Service says five new spot fires are suspected lightning-caused and each is estimated at 0.009 hectares.
- Following weekend thunderstorms, five new lightning-caused spot fires emerged near the Okanagan Connector and north of the 25,021-hectare Bald Range wildfire, prompting active responses from the BC Wildfire Service.
- Three of these blazes are located within the Central Okanagan, including two within Darke Lake Provincial Park and one near the southern boundary of Trepanier Park.
- At 1.1 hectares, The Davies Lake blaze is the largest of the new fires and remains "out of control," while others are estimated at 0.009 hectares in size.
- Crews are using rappel teams and helicopters to action remaining fires, while the Lacoma Creek wildfire sparked off Highway 97C on Sunday is now considered held.
- Saturday's lightning also ignited fires near Kamloops and Kelowna's Tower Ranch Golf Course, though quick responses from aerial and ground crews have brought those blazes under control, with the Kamloops fire reaching 44 hectares.
