The UNLV Rebels defeated the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 21-6 on Saturday night at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex in Honolulu, securing a Mountain West conference victory in the Ninth Island Showdown.
Both programs entered seeking redemption after season-opening losses; UNLV held a 3-9 road record in Hawaii heading into this 18th consecutive annual meeting between the rivals.
Running back Jai'Den "Jet" Thomas rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Jackson Arnold totaled 116 passing yards and two rushing scores to lead the Rebels' offense.
UNLV's defense recorded five sacks and prevented any touchdowns, limiting Hawaii quarterback Micah Alejado to 62 passing yards through the first half of play.
The Rebels travel to face the North Texas Mean Green next Saturday, while the Rainbow Warriors host New Mexico State in their respective Mountain West matchups.
