James Franklin Calls Virginia Tech Penalty "Un-American" in Blunt Statement
Virginia Tech piled up 619 total yards and five rushing touchdowns as blocked punts and 18 tackles for loss overwhelmed VMI.
Virginia Tech defeated VMI 73-3 at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg on Saturday, dominating the Keydets for four quarters in a lopsided Power Four matchup.
Tech's win was one of 15 by Power Four conference teams over FCS opponents on Saturday, extending a 146-game winning streak against FCS foes dating to 2023.
Statistical dominance defined the matchup: Tech's Offense gained 619 yards versus VMI's 83, while the Defense recorded eighteen tackles for a loss and running backs scored five rushing touchdowns.
Special teams delivered explosive plays as Cortez Harris and Tyson Flowers blocked punts, with Knahlij Harrell recovering one for a score and Sheldon Robinson also recovering a blocked punt.
Coach Franklin praised the 'complete game,' noting that 'Offense did what they were supposed to. Defense did what they were supposed to.' George Ballance carried the Governor's Sword high above his head to cap the victory.
