Manali and Shimla witnessed a sharp increase in tourist vehicles, with 16,277 vehicles entering Shimla through the Shoghi barrier on Friday, including around 7,060 from outside the state. Tourists reported journeys that normally take 15-20 minutes stretching to one or two hours.
Long weekend rush chokes Himachal, Uttarakhand roads with hours-long jams
A long weekend rush of tourists and pilgrims caused heavy congestion on the Shimla and Badrinath routes. The delays disrupted local movement and raised safety concerns on crowded hill roads.
The long weekend, which began after the October 2nd holiday, saw a huge influx of tourists and pilgrims into the mountains. Vehicles stretched 7 to 9 kilometers along the Joshimath-Badrinath Yatra route, while traffic jams stretched several kilometers along the Kalka-Shimla National Highway 5. At both locations, travelers were stranded for hours.
