Non-Life Threatening Injuries in Hwy97 Crash South of Vernon

RCMP said a red Kia Rio turned into the path of a Honda Fit, sending both drivers to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

  • On Friday, Oct. 2, two vehicles collided on Highway 97 at Bailey Road south of Vernon, with emergency crews arriving shortly after 2:30 p.m.
  • Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, reported that a red Kia Rio attempted to turn northbound in front of a southbound Honda Fit.
  • The Honda driver could not avoid the collision, striking the Kia and forcing it down an embankment near Kekuli Bay; Vernon Fire Rescue and Emergency Health Services responded to the scene.
  • Both drivers were transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, while an air ambulance landed in the Commonage area to assist.
  • Traffic stopped completely in both directions when the helicopter landed, though normal flow resumed after emergency crews cleared the scene.
