Tesco apologises as horrified mum claims she found 'worms' in roast chicken
Tesco apologized and said it is investigating with its supplier after the customer accepted a £20 voucher but said food safety was her main concern.
On September 6, Freya Hill, 31, discovered two worm-like creatures inside a roast chicken purchased for £3.40 from the Tesco Extra store in Sandhurst, Berkshire.
While preparing Sunday lunch, Hill noticed the chicken appeared "filthy" and covered in seeds, describing it as contaminated with feed and stating, "I said to my partner, 'this isn't right, come look at this.'"
Concerned about potential batch contamination, Hill contacted Tesco via WhatsApp, insisting her primary concern was food safety, stating, "I just thought, 'if I've got a chicken like this, there could be more out there from that batch.'"
Tesco apologized and confirmed it is investigating the complaint with its supplier, with a spokesman stating, "In a situation like this we encourage customers to return the product to store for a full refund."
Although Hill accepted a £20 voucher after declining a £10 offer, she stated the experience made her "paranoid" about checking poultry and she will no longer purchase chickens from Tesco.
