Tampa Bay Rays to Host New York Yankees in AL Division Series
Rasmussen has not lost since the All-Star break, and the Rays enter with the American League’s best record and home-field advantage.
Manager Kevin Cash confirmed the Tampa Bay Rays will start Drew Rasmussen in Game 1 on Saturday, October 3, at Tropicana Field against the New York Yankees.
Having secured the American League East title with 98 wins, the Rays earned home-field advantage, while the Yankees advanced after sweeping the Boston Red Sox in the Wild Card Series.
Rasmussen went 16-5 with a 2.67 ERA this season and is a notorious 'Yankee killer,' boasting a 5-2 record and 1.81 ERA in 11 career appearances against New York.
While the Rays finalized their pitching plan, the Yankees have yet to announce a Game 1 starter, and three-time American League MVP Aaron Judge's availability remains uncertain following a calf strain.
This best-of-five series marks only the second postseason meeting between the rivals, following the Rays' victory over the Yankees in the 2020 ALDS.
