Sydney Sweeney & Marilyn Monroe Share a Surprising Family Secret
MyHeritage said the two actresses share a paternal family line that converges on 17th-century settler Ezra Perry, deepening long-running comparisons.
Genealogy platform MyHeritage revealed this week that Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe are ninth cousins, once removed, according to newly released research connecting the two actresses.
Their family trees converge at Ezra Perry, an early settler in Sandwich, Massachusetts, with Sweeney linked through her father Steven Sweeney and Monroe through her biological father Charles Stanley Gifford.
Sweeney wore a 73-year-old vintage Ceil Chapman gown at the Santa Barbara Film Festival in February that recalled Monroe's iconic 1952 LIFE magazine cover, fueling their long-standing visual comparison.
MyHeritage Director of Research Roi Mandel said the long-standing comparison inspired the investigation, noting "Uncovering their shared branch was incredible, it's a powerful reminder" of human interconnection.
Beyond genealogy, the two share parallel religious interests; Page Six reported this week Sweeney is discussing converting to Judaism, a faith Monroe adopted in 1956 before marrying playwright Arthur Miller.
