- In January 2026, a district court sentenced the couple to 17 years in prison under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act after the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency charged them over social media posts.
- During the hearing, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan stated, "Both are lawyers; we are respecting their dignity," while directing them to observe the decorum of the court.
- Additional Attorney General Rana Asad opposed the bail applications, contending that the Islamabad High Court had not yet decided the matter, presenting the government's objection to the relief.
- Filed through Advocate Faisal Siddiqui, the petition argued the trial court's order violated due process under Articles 10 and 10A of the Constitution and the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898.
