Study of 15,000 Patients Proposes Vaccine Against Synthetic Virus to Prevent Death of Elderly People
Among the hospitalized users due to acute respiratory infections, the Respiratory Sencial Virus was identified in 345: "Almost one in five adults hospitalized with the virus did not survive".
Gonçalo Sarmento recalls that the inoculation against this virus already integrates the National Plan of Vaccination, so it is available free of charge to babies, but defends that the National Health Service (SNS) must start to share it also for adults, in order to avoid risk of respiratory failure in the senior community
After concluding that one in five patients with this condition died in hospital
This is the main conclusion of the study conducted by the internist doctor Gonçalo Sarmento, who on Thursday will present in Coimbra these and other data collected between 2018 and 2024 in the Local Health Unit of Entre Douro e Vouga (ULS EDV), in what describes as "one of the largest research initiatives in the context of real life ever carried out in Portugal on the impact of Sencicial Respiratory Virus (VSR) on the adult population".
