Student in Kochi booked for allegedly morphing teachers’, students’ photos into obscene content

- Thrikkakara police registered a case against a second-year BBA student for allegedly morphing photographs and videos of teachers and students into obscene content and circulating them on social media platforms.
- The Muslim Students Federation Malappuram district committee lodged a complaint with District Police Chief Chaithra Theresa John after students from eight colleges reported that their Onam celebration photographs were being misused on social media.
- According to the complaint, the digital manipulation infringes upon student privacy and dignity, causing serious mental distress. The student allegedly collected photographs and videos from various college events before altering them.
- Following the complaint, District Police Chief Chaithra Theresa John directed DySPs of respective areas to take necessary action. The student was booked under provisions relating to insulting the modesty of women and transmitting obscene material.
- The MSF sought urgent cyber-police intervention to remove the morphed photographs from the internet and urged police to block the social media accounts being used to circulate the images and take exemplary legal action.
