Police said the student allegedly used AI to turn photos of teachers and classmates into explicit images and shared them on social media.
- On Thursday, police took a second-year Bharata Mata College student into custody in Thrikkakara for allegedly using AI to morph photographs of teachers and students, then circulating explicit images on Telegram and Instagram.
- According to the FIR, the student modified photos from formal college events between December 1, 2025, and September 2, 2026, with the case registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Information Technology Act, and Kerala Police Act.
- Principal Soumya Thomas stated the college dismissed the student Wednesday following an internal disciplinary inquiry, refuting allegations that management acted negligently by allowing him to leave campus before police were informed.
- Agitating students staged a sit-in protest on campus, alleging that authorities protected the accused by helping him leave premises before informing police, while demanding stricter consequences against him and potential accomplices.
- Police are currently examining the student's mobile phone to identify affected parties and verify the scope of allegations, with investigators conducting a preliminary inquiry to determine if additional individuals were involved in distribution.
