Matt Vezza's TD Proves Difference in Ohio's 13-10 Win over Kent State
Will Hryszko kicked two field goals, and Sean Leonard missed a 32-yard try as Kent State fell short late.
On Saturday, Ohio University defeated Kent State 13-10 in their Mid-American Conference opener at Dix Stadium, with Matt Vezza scoring a touchdown and Will Hryszko making two field goals.
After Caleb Chamberlin blocked a punt by Jake Stoeckel, the Bobcats established a 10-3 halftime lead on a 40-yard field goal from Hryszko and a 35-yard touchdown run by Vezza.
The Kent State Golden Flashes tied the game 10-10 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Mason King, but their overtime bid failed when kicker Sean Leonard missed a 32-yard field goal with 10 seconds left.
Kent State coach Mark Carney said the loss "definitely stings," as the team fell to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the MAC, following a blocked 49-yard field goal attempt earlier in the fourth quarter.
The victory improves Ohio to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the MAC, positioning the Bobcats ahead in conference play as the Flashes work to rebound from the narrow defeat.
