SAPS Confirms Postponement of Sibiya's Disciplinary Hearing
SAPS says the disciplinary case will continue as Sibiya’s urgent Labour Court bid to stop it has not yet been decided.
Suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya has filed an urgent application with The Labour Court to halt his SAPS disciplinary hearing, though police are opposing the move and insisting the process will continue.
Sibiya's disciplinary hearing stems from corruption and misconduct allegations that emerged during the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, following police notice to appear served while he remained in custody.
Proceedings began on Monday, October 5, but were postponed at Sibiya's request to allow time for legal consultation; the hearing resumes on October 12, with The Labour Court yet to issue a ruling.
Sibiya faces separate criminal charges, including rape, trafficking, and the sexual grooming of a minor, and is expected back in court on Wednesday for ongoing bail proceedings.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that SAPS is opposing the application, maintaining that the court matter has not brought the internal disciplinary process to a halt.
