Moy Catchment Angling Report – week ending 06-09-2026 Síle Philbin reports from the River Moy… Weather for week ending 6th September was generally mild and variable, with average daytime air temperatures of 15° Celsius characterised by standard early-Autumn cloud cover, periodic rainfall and breezy intervals.  A minor rise in river levels at the beginning of the week brought an increase in fish activity to the mid and upper sections of the river. When mandatory “catch-and-release” angling commenced from Tuesday 1st September, anglers had some success on the spinner but had to remain patient as water levels steadily fell towards the weekend. At noon on Sunday water levels at Ballylahan Bridge had subsided back to 0.54 m. Salmon anglers are reminded that they can only fish “catch and release” during September, using single or double barbless hooks and anglers may not use worms. A total of 76 fish were reported caught across the catchment for the week, 67 of which were reported released. Moy Fishery A total of fourteen salmon were caught on the Ridge Pool for the week, thirteen of which were released. Weights varied from 3 lbs to 8.5 lbs. Ballina Salmon Anglers Robbie reported twenty-seven salmon caught and released on the spinner, twelve of which were caught by two anglers from Cornwall. Mount Falcon Estate Mike reported three salmon caught and released for the week. Knockmore Salmon Anglers Association Kenneth reported five salmon caught and released on the prawn. Attymass Angling Club Kevin reported two salmon caught and released on the spinner. Armstrong Fishery George reported seven salmon caught on the prawn, six of which were released. Gannon’s Fishery Pat reported four salmon caught, one of which was released. Foxford Fishery Granville reported three salmon caught on the spinner, one of which was released. Foxford Salmon Anglers Harry reported six salmon caught and released for the week. East Mayo Anglers Association Kathleen reported four salmon caught, three of which were released. One was caught on the spinner and the rest on the fly, ranging from 3 lbs to 9 lbs.
