Rep. Crockett Says She’ll Be Campaigning ‘Downballot’ Instead of with Talarico
- Congresswoman Crockett told CNN on Thursday she has no plans to join Representative James Talarico, the Democratic Senate nominee, on the campaign trail.
- Following the March primary, Talarico defeated Crockett 52.5 percent to 46.2 percent, a difference of roughly 144,500 votes. She initially endorsed him but has since distanced herself.
- A TSU survey found 79 percent of likely Black voters intend to vote for Talarico, while a University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll found 69% of Black voters would support him.
- Focusing on downballot candidates, Crockett told Laura Coates on Thursday, "I will be campaigning downballot." She argued that fixation on her activities is counterproductive to the campaign against Ken Paxton.
- Challenging Paxton, a loyalist of President Donald Trump, Talarico hopes to turn the seat blue. Texas has not elected a Democrat to a statewide office since 1994.
