Qualcomm is solving Snapdragon X’s Linux problem
Qualcomm will upstream core Linux drivers and build a Debian reference distro, with Ubuntu support and a one-button installer planned for Snapdragon X2 laptops.
- At the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, Qualcomm announced Linux support is coming to Snapdragon X2-based PCs, initially covering only the X2 Plus and X2 Elite chips.
- Qualcomm outlined a three-part strategy to support Linux PCs, starting with upstreaming core drivers for the Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU, then creating a reference Debian distro by the end of 2026.
- Canonical VP of partnerships Cindy Goldberg confirmed Ubuntu support for Snapdragon devices early next year, while ASUS plans to offer Ubuntu availability on the Asus Zenbook before the year's halfway point.
- To simplify deployment, Qualcomm will release a one-button Linux installer in the first half of next year, supporting both Debian and the Ubuntu distro on compatible devices.
