German Protests Draw Tens of Thousands After AfD Win
Police and organisers said 18,000 marched in Berlin as nationwide rallies pressed Germany’s courts to consider a ban on the AfD.

Tens of thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday 12 September in Berlin against the far right, one week after the victory of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Saxony-Anhalt, where the party won nearly 44% of the votes. At the call of 80 organisations, parties, trade unions and associations, the demonstrators marched in favour of an open and democratic society, while new elections are taking place in Germany.
