President Donald Trump announces creation of 'Super Intelligence Force' AI task force
The task force will coordinate federal engagement with industry and consumer groups as top AI firms signed voluntary safety standards, officials said.
On Sunday, President Donald Trump announced the "Super Intelligence Force" to coordinate federal engagement with consumers, public-interest groups, and infrastructure providers, aiming to ensure America leads in global technology.
Last week's White House meeting with six Technology Companies prompted the initiative, where participants signed a "constitution" establishing voluntary standards for self-policing their systems.
Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton will lead the force alongside Federal Trade Commission Andrew Ferguson, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management Scott Kupor, reporting to Trump and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
Under the accord, Technology Companies committed to "four layers of controls and audits" to ensure systems act as intended, while also agreeing to meet regularly to establish best practices for safety.
Clayton emphasized competitive urgency when he told The Wall Street Journal that "the risk of not being first is high," noting that global dominance better enables the U.S. to address risks from adversaries.
