French Men Get Suspended Jail Sentences over Livestreamed Death
The court gave suspended prison terms, fines and six-month social media bans after finding the pair guilty of violence and incitement to hatred.
- On Wednesday, The Nice criminal court handed suspended prison sentences to two French streamers for inflicting violence and humiliation on 46-year-old Raphael Graven, known online as Jean Pormanove.
- The incident, which aired on the Australia-based Kick platform, shocked France last summer, prompting investigations by Arcom and Paris Prosecutors into the streaming service.
- Safine Hamadi and Owen Cenazandotti were found guilty of violence and incitement to hatred, though the court acquitted them of abusing Graven's psychological frailty after he told police he consented to the stunts.
- Hamadi received an 18-month suspended prison sentence and €5,000 fine, while Cenazandotti received two years suspended and €15,000, with both banned from social networks for six months. "The conviction is mainly symbolic," Tom Michel, Hamadi's lawyer, said.
- While Prosecutors said Graven's death appeared due to poor health, Australia-based Kick remains under formal investigation with arrest warrants issued for some of its officers.
