Murder investigation launched after violent disorder incident in Welsh town
Seven men have been arrested as detectives seek dashcam footage and witnesses after a 56-year-old man died following the disorder.
Gwent Police launched a murder investigation following the death of Anthony "Tony" Jones, 56, who suffered life-threatening injuries during a reported "violent disorder" in Pontnewynydd on Thursday.
Police responded to reports of a violent group in Mill Street at 7.15 pm on Thursday, leading to the arrest of seven men aged 31, 39, 40, 45, 59, 61, and 73 who remain in custody.
Detective Superintendent Laura Bartley urged motorists driving along Hospital Road and Mill Road between 6 pm and 9 pm on Thursday to check dashcam footage to help investigators establish the movements of those involved.
Specialist officers are supporting the family of Jones, while forensic teams worked at the scene in Pontnewynydd on Friday, placing evidence markers outside the sports and social club.
