Fraudster jailed over multi-million pound PPE scam
Craig Morris received a three-year, nine-month sentence after prosecutors said the pair used sham PPE deals to take millions and buy luxury goods.
On Wednesday, Craig Morris, 43, of Lytham St Annes, was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison at Northampton Crown Court for orchestrating a multi-million-pound PPE fraud during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prosecutor Michael Bisgrove told the court that Jogesh Bhandari was the "driving force and the instigator" of the operation, with both men using their company Banton to create sham PPE contracts targeting firms in the United States and Germany.
Proceeds from the fraud totaled £1.75 million, funding luxury items including a £126,000 Porsche and family debt repayment. Meenakshi Bhandari, 58, received a two-year suspended sentence for money laundering.
Jogesh Bhandari did not attend Wednesday's hearing, claiming he required a "very extreme painkiller" after a medical procedure. Judge William Harbage KC issued a bench warrant, stating there was "no medical evidence" to explain his absence.
The remaining defendant is expected to be sentenced on October 16, after Judge William Harbage KC warned that the case cannot be delayed indefinitely at his will.
