Otsego High School to host Medal of Honor recipient for free lecture, Sept. 26 – BG Independent News

Byers is returning home for an evening lecture, “Heartbeat of America and Her Enduring Values.” The event will take place at the Otsego High School auditorium on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. Byers, raised in Grand Rapids and a 1997 graduate of Otsego High School, was awarded the Medal of Honor in 2016. Recognized for his extraordinary valor during a 2012 hostage rescue mission in Afghanistan as a member of the elite SEAL Team Six, Byers exemplifies the six traits of the Medal of Honor – sacrifice, integrity, patriotism, courage, commitment, and citizenship. Bringing Byers back to the Otsego area to share his vision of America is an opportunity to hear a presentation about the nation from a hero. This free event will be a continuation of the local area’s commemoration of America’s 250th celebration.
