Only one in three over 50s know if they are getting enough fibre
Only 35% of adults aged 50 and above knew the 30g daily fibre target, while 75% of Gen Z said they could identify high-fibre foods.
A new Kellogg study reveals only 35 per cent of adults aged 50 and older know the recommended 30g daily fibre intake, while Gen Z demonstrates significantly higher confidence in identifying high-fibre foods.
While 84 per cent of Gen Z track health metrics like calories and protein, fibre remains overlooked; 41 per cent of all adults lack confidence naming high-fibre foods, and 27 per cent dismiss it as unimportant.
Nutritionist May Simpkin notes fibre "doesn't always compete with trendier health conversations," yet 33 per cent of those polled identified breakfast as the easiest meal to boost intake, with cereal and milk at 31 per cent.
May Simpkin suggests small, manageable changes to daily routines, as choosing a fibre-rich breakfast like All-Bran can provide 7.8g of fibre—nearly one-third of the recommended daily intake.
Although 39 per cent of people are actively pursuing healthier habits, 30 per cent admit they would like to improve their diet but find it difficult, underscoring the need for accessible fibre guidance.
