“No repression can extinguish our resolve to defend Constitution”: Pinarayi Vijayan on Delhi protests
Around 1,000 protesters were detained as CPI(M) leaders demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, police sources said.
- On Saturday, Delhi Police detained CPI leader and Leader of Opposition in the Keralam Assembly Pinarayi Vijayan near Kerala House during protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and electoral roll revisions.
- Protesters gathered across New Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with around 1,000 individuals detained during demonstrations.
- Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan condemned the "arbitrary detention" of Vijayan, instructing the Keralam Chief Secretary to coordinate with Delhi Police for his release from Mandir Marg Police Station.
- The CPI state secretariat condemned the suppression, describing police action as "fascist" and alleging officers acted like "goons" of the RSS and BJP to protect the Chief Election Commissioner.
- Vijayan accused the Modi government of a "ruthless crackdown on democracy," asserting that "no repression can extinguish our resolve to defend the Constitution and the right to vote.
