Nigeria orders investigation into second fake government agency
ICPC linked the new bogus office to forged records and impersonation as investigators uncovered two additional fake agencies in the ongoing probe.
- On Friday, ICPC Chairman Musa Aliyu disclosed the discovery of a fake agency, the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office, operating within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
- This discovery stems from the investigation into the fictitious Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council ; Aliyu briefed President Bola Tinubu on August 6, 2026, when the probe had already uncovered two additional fake agencies.
- Investigators identified the promoter as George Buchi Nwabueze, who operated under aliases including 'Honourable George Buchi Nwabueze,' while Aliyu recommended prosecuting Director-General Adeniyi Adeyemi for alleged forgery and impersonation.
- President Tinubu ordered the immediate suspension of permanent secretaries M.S. Danjuma, Nadungu Gagare, and Richard P. Pheelangwah, and directed the arrest of Nwabueze for his alleged role in the scheme.
- The ICPC will continue its investigations accordingly, building on the interim report Aliyu submitted on August 6, 2026, exactly 30 days after the initial probe was ordered.
