NFL Suspends 49ers Linebacker Dre Greenlaw for One Game After Headbutt
The linebacker can appeal the discipline through the NFL Players Association after the league cited poor sportsmanship.
On Monday, the National Football League suspended San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw for one game without pay for unsportsmanlike conduct during Sunday's 32-29 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.
The suspension stems from a second-quarter incident where Greenlaw headbutted Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones on the Seattle sideline after bumping quarterback Sam Darnold during a scramble.
Ejected from Sunday's game, Greenlaw has a history of disciplinary issues, including a prior suspension for verbally threatening referee Brad Allen and ejections against Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Greenlaw has the right to appeal through the NFL Players Association but will miss next Monday's game against the Washington Commanders, where Jaden Dugger will fill in.
Under the suspension terms, Greenlaw is eligible to return to the 49ers' active roster on October 20, following San Francisco's game against the Washington Commanders.
