The Minister of Infrastructure announced that after successful tests of the GSM-R system on the Central Railway Main Line, the path to increasing speeds on this route is now open. Construction of the system, without which rail traffic cannot be improved, has been delayed for several years.
Tests of the GSM-R data transmission system, which supports rail traffic at speeds above 160 kilometers per hour, were conducted on the Central Railway Main Line. As Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak reminded on Tuesday, next year the first trains will run on this route at speeds of 250 kilometers per hour.
On the night of August 17-18, a Pendolino train reached 253 km/h during tests. According to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Piotr Malepszak, passengers will be able to use faster connections as early as the second half of next year.
