- British Columbia presents a "tipping paradox," where only 4 in 10 workers receive tips, yet those who do rely on them heavily. For 12 per cent of B.C. hospitality staff, tips account for over 40 per cent of their income.
- Natasha Chestnut of the Restaurant Association of Nova Scotia noted that rising costs squeeze consumers and businesses alike. Meanwhile, 61% of tipped workers say tip income has influenced their decision to stay in hospitality.
- Workers say faster access to tips would "meaningfully improve" their financial situation, such as same-day payouts. As tipping standards evolve, the industry faces building a system rooted in transparency to support its workforce.
